A Style Is Born | A History Show for Wayfair’s YouTube Channel

I’ve had the big and interesting challenge of researching, scripting, producing, filming, and editing this show for Wayfair! I’m so proud of how these have turned out. I’ve never done something on this scale but it’s been a joy to have the resources and time to dive deeply into research topics, find ways to tell the stories of these design histories, and to make it all fun. Somehow I also managed to make miniature furniture a big part of the aesthetics of the show and now I’m fuelling this secret fascination while saying it’s “for work”!

Mid Century Modern

This was the pilot episode and I had a lot of fun going all out with different sets and props. I loved learning about the influence that post-war materials like plastics and plywood had on interior design.

Minimalism

I go into the research for each of these episodes with a really open mind because my personal opinion of the styles doesn’t matter - the history is always interesting! I don’t particularly like minimalism for my own spaces but I loved investigating Minimalist art in the 60s, minimalist architecture, and finding a miniature version of the Arco Floor Lamp.

Cottagecore

I think this was my favourite episode to make. I loved leaning in to the aesthetic by wearing gingham dresses, filming outside, and the adorable miniatures in this one where so lovely. I think my personal style incorporates a bit of cottagecore so it was great for me to learn more about it.
